First things first, we are not in anyway connected with the real “MAFIA”, that’s just dumb - no, here we have a parody, a play on words, which can be read about here.

In 2006 Chris Hambly founded a networking initiative known as the ACHUB with a mission of conducting academic research, events and facilitation concerning all things social media related, both offline and online. We even still have the old wiki which can be seen here: http://audiocourses.pbwiki.com/

The ACHUB was the incubator for a whole variety of events including:

Early in 2008 the ACHUB was successfully re-branded to Social Media Mafia and used a Facebook group, before settling on a more appropriate facebook page, has continued with its mission and conducted multiple new and social media related publishing, events,  consultancy, networking and commerical activity in UK and Internationally, including USA and Europe.

The Social Media Mafia has thousands of members in its LinkedIn Group, many many more in various other social media platforms, as well as having considerable leverage in relationships with influential new-media practitioners globally.
